Reason #54: What goes around, comes around.

I know that I have been teaching at a school for a while, or just teaching a while, when I start having younger siblings in my classes. This is something truly special because it means that I am able to be a part of a family’s life for many years, many depending on the number of siblings.

Today, not only was I reminded that one of my girls has two older sisters who took French with me, but I also learned that her best friend has also benefited.  Jeanne-Marie told me today that she remembered learning French from her best friend, Cristelle, who was learning it from her older sisters.  She went over the French Cristelle taught her and they just laughed remembering it.  This was back when they were in middle school and now they are sophomores! Not so many years ago, but enough to make it count!

The way they were smiling and laughing about it made me so happy. How awesome it is to think that years ago when I had no idea that two of my students were taking French home and passing it along in a way that really would make a difference. On top of that, I would be able to witness that personally years later and benefit from it as well!   I guess it is not just a cliché after all, what goes around comes around.  What a gift!

Next year, Cristelle and Jeanne-Marie will be among the group of students who will travel to France.  Now that will be an interesting chapter in the journey.

Merci Cristelle et Jeanne-Marie pour votre enthousiasme!   Je suis impatiente pour notre déjeuner avec la tarte aux pecans !

Watching laughter and joy in action, in French...

This is why I teach!
