Reason #42 Bears and Balloons

I said that Valentine’s Day week is crazy at a high school.  Well, Valentine’s Day is beyond crazy.

At the beginning of first class of the day, walks a gigantic teddy bear literally the size of Françoise, the lucky girl who was struggling to carry it as it almost touched the floor. To top it off, not only did she have a bear, but the bear had a dozen roses!  And, she also had balloons!  Wow!  What a sight.  Luckily, I have a chair by my desk that was just perfect for our visitor Mr. Bear.

In walked more balloons, roses, boxes of candy, pretty valentine’s bags, candy, little valentine’s and many smiles.  No one is ever too old to get a little Superman valentine and candy. It isn’t just for elementary school!

To add to the fun, our oh-so-productive class was interrupted at least twice by choir members coming in to sing to other lucky girls.  Who could be annoyed at this sign of appreciation and love? Not me. I was more envious that anything, and happy for the girls to be at the center of this joyful attention. It was also cool to see the choir members’ talents!  They made the girls, and a few others like moi, cry.

So Valentine’s Day on a Friday is quite a spectacle of laughter, smiles, and parading gigantic teddy bears!  It is also a lot of fun!

This is why I teach!
