There is something
about snow that brightens up our school. Students get excited, both about the
snow and the possibilities of no school. They are not the only ones, however. Teachers
are the same way!
It doesn’t usually
snow at my school so when it does, it is like a different world. Students are
completely distracted and we are not very productive as they anticipate being let
out early or not having school the next day.
They delayed school
the other day and there is something special in waking up at the time I am
usually supposed to be starting class. What is interesting is that the mood on
delay days is often the opposite of snow-falling days. Students are grumpy about why they had to
come to school. Teachers often feel the same way, exactly the same way! It does make sense though. We are just like them. We have just been in school a lot longer, some of us our entire lives!
How can one day be so
different from the next? Is it the
anticipation of a day off versus the reality of not having one? It is like we
feel so good on Friday thinking about the weekend, but that feeling fades as
the weekend progresses into Sunday night.
Why is it that so often our future creates who we are and what we feel in
the present?
Snow…
a winter roller coaster
of emotions
to shake us from
our daily routine.
Experiencing the
excitement of snowflakes with a community…
This is why I teach!
