Some students can be
so thoughtful! As I am writing tonight,
I am reminded of an experience a few weeks ago.
The stereotype is a teacher getting an apple from a student, right? Well a student was so thoughtful the other day, reminding me of how we are connected as a community and care about each other so much that students notice how they can make a difference in my life. And they act up on those observations.
I was editing
students’ papers one day and when I was working with Sylvie, I had to use her pencil. It was awesome! It was smooth on the paper, the right-size
lead, and fit so well in my hand. I know
that sounds strange, but as a writer, I am particular about my pencils and
paper. It is hard to find pencils that
are smooth and comfortable to hold. It
is even more difficult to find smooth paper that pencils and pens glide over
easily. I love office supply stores! I know, pretty nerdy, but it is true!
After helping a few other students with their papers, I returned to my
desk and about 5 minutes later, Sylvie comes up to my desk and gives me her
pencil. What a nice surprise! It is even pink, my favorite color. How awesome is that?
Now every
time I go to use my pencil, I have happy thoughts of Sylvie’s generosity. It is truly the little things that do
count!
Merci Sylvie pour ta générosité! Tu es super sympa!
This is why I teach!
